I am often asked what I feed Blake for breakfast with being so “restricted” in our diet. That is a great question and I have had tons of trial and error trying to feed a sometimes picky toddler! Usually, I cook homemade sausages in bulk and then store them in the freezer to grab out in the mornings, but I like to change things up a bit for him and offer some variety. This simple to make “Oat”meal is delicious and the recipe can be easily adjusted to your liking.
I decided on making a no oats “oatmeal” when I was having several stomach upsets myself and could not figure out what was causing these super uncomfortable situations. My diet at that point had been as close to Paleo as one could get, minus the oatmeal I was eating for breakfast (and occasionally in my baked goods). After several trips to the doctor, I was tired of hearing that they couldn’t tell me what was causing the issue. And the second they told me that they would like me to do a “certain procedure” (that I was certain I did not need) I decided to take matters into my own hands. After some research on the topic, I finally listened to my body and cut out grains. After just one week with no grains, my body felt better! I was amazed at how this food was effecting me by slowly damaging my gut. I was even more amazed with how my body felt once I started treating it with the respect it deserves.
I did a little experiment and cut it out of Blake’s morning routine too. Not only did I notice an improvement in his attitude, but in his diaper too! I could feel his relief… Mainly because I knew it all too well.
So to replace our morning oatmeal ritual I got crafty in the kitchen and made this Banana Oatmeal. He enjoys it on occasion and it offers a very tasty alternative to our typical sausage and fruit deal.
